D is for Dragon
Week 4 of the Alphabet Superset Challenge
Week 4 I technically missed. This week was meant to be a rest week from the Alphabet Superset Challenge, but it turned into a catch-up week for me. Certain priorities overshadowed my attention, and I couldn’t quite get to my dragon-themed cover until now. What was equally challenging, was brainstorming an idea and synopsis for Dragon!
Many of the dragon-focused fairytales I was finding and reading placed the dragon as the antagonist—always ending in the defeat or killing of the dragon. I wasn’t inspired by this at all. So for this week, instead of focusing on a specific fairy tale, I took the story archetype of “Dragon & Princess” and spun that instead.
A quick description of the archetype: dragon is threatening town/city/kingdom, and princess is sent as a sacrifice to appease the dragon. Princess is rescued by prince/nobleman/adventurer and they marry in the end.
The Fairy tale The Archetype: Dragon & Princess
The genre: Mystery
The Mock Title: Dragon P.D. On the Case! File #1
The Mock Synopsis:
Stolen treasure? Missing Grandma? Fear not, with Detective P. Dragon on the case, your mystery will be solved before the next full moon or your money back—guaranteed! He’s the best in the bizz, and proud of it. There’s no case Detective P. Dragon can’t solve—so of course when he receives a secret request for help from Princess Pearl Ann of the Oceana Kingdom, he’s quick to action!
Princess Pearl Ann is at her wits end. Her Father, the King, has been struck with a sleeping curse, leaving the kingdom’s rule in shambles under her uncle’s not-so-great reign. Well, if you like parties, you’d love it, but the people want stability, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, not a mandatory limbo contest! With all the parties, the kingdom is bordering on bankruptcy! And now her uncle is forcing Princess Pearl Ann’s hand to the neighbouring prince as a “get-out-of-debt-free card.” This cannot stand!
So turning to Detective P. Dragon, she begs for help, and he just can’t say no! After all, a Dragon saving a princess? Think of what this will do for his reputation!
But Princess Pearl Ann’s case isn’t as cut and dry as he first believed. Finding the Sorceress who cursed the king is only the first step in unraveling the tangles case this is quickly becoming. The Sorceress was hired by an unknown royal source, the Prince may or may not have been tricked into the marriage agreement, and Princess Pearl-Ann may not be entirely as innocent as she made herself out to be…
No matter, Detective P. D has never NOT cracked the case! He’ll get to the bottom of this or hang up his detective license for good. As if he’d ever let that happen!
.
Next week (hopefully): is E for Elves! Stay tuned! I have two weddings next weekend AND we’re hosting during the week, so fingers crossed I’ll get this in on time!
Alphabet Superset: The goal of the challenge is to make something every week for 26 weeks. You can pick the output, the style, the theme. The important thing is that you stick with it! Learn more about the challenge here.
