F is for Frog (and friendship)
Week 6 (for me) of the Alphabet Superset Challenge
F is for frog, of course! My other option was “fiddle” but when I realized the main goal of the frog in “The Frog Prince” was to become friends with the princess, I did appreciate the wholesomeness of the motivation. Of course, he bargains for that friendship, and she only agrees to get something from him (her golden ball which fell down a well)… but still, it’s something. And let’s not mention the one version where instead of kissing the frog to turn him into a prince, she throws him against the wall…
Friendship was the inspiration for this one. With the “contemporary” genre picked, I knew I could do a fun “enemies to friends” storyline.
The Fairy tale: The Frog Prince
The genre: Contemporary
The Mock Title: Acting Friendly
The Mock Synopsis:
All Clara wants to be at school is popular. And why not? She’s pretty, has a great personality, great fashion sense (even with a dreaded uniform), and amazing acting talent! It’s too bad her dad is principle and the kids all think she’s a tattle tale… even when she only tattled once! But Clara knows if she can land the lead in the school play version of “The Taming of the Shrew,” she’ll become one of the most popular girls in school! She just needs to get those science grades up so her dad will let her audition…
Enter Jamie, stage left! Jamie is a whiz at science! And math, and geography… anything where he doesn’t need to stand up and speak in front of other people. When you have a speech impediment that make his S’s sound like Z’s, and earns you the nickname “Lisp Boy,” it makes you a bit shy to talk. Which is frustrating when you really, really want to act! yes, Jamie is a closest thespian, with Shakespeare a personal favourite of his. When his mother suggests joining the school play as stage crew as a way to slowly make his way onto the stage, he very reluctantly agrees. Unfortunately, he’s too shy to offer any ideas and is forced into the background… again. It’s hard to get a word in when Loudmouth Clara leads the pack.
It’s no surprise that the two just don’t get along. But when Clara and Jamie are forced to become science lab partners, they very quickly need to work together or else risk setting their assignment on fire! Jamie saves the day, and Clara realizes very quickly that Jamie is her ticket to stardom! And Jamie is very happy to help Clara out with her grades… if she helps him land the second lead of the play.

Next Week is: G for … either Gold or Goose. Haven’t decided yet…
Alphabet Superset: The goal of the challenge is to make something every week for 26 weeks. You can pick the output, the style, the theme. The important thing is that you stick with it! Learn more about the challenge here.
